Ways To Deal With Liars And Deceivers The Biblical Way

In a sinful world that’s under the influence of the father of lies, we should not be surprised to see all sorts of deceitful and lying tactics being used against us. We should not be surprised at the fact that anyone can lie to us, straight to our faces, at any given time.

That said, how do we respond when we find out we are being deceived? How do we deal with the fact that there are people whom we trusted, yet have lied to us? And yes, how do we respond when the deceiver is a fellow Christian?

We’ve got to respond with grace.

Grace that empowers

Many people think of “grace” as some sort of ability to be passive. What I mean is, when people think “gracious Christians,” we think of the kind who just allow anybody to deceive them and manipulate them, and then forgive and forget the offense. This is wrong.

Grace, in its simplest definition, is God giving us the goodness we don’t deserve. He saw our sinfulness and our wickedness, yet He loved us so much and gave His one and only Son for us to be saved, through believing. We didn’t deserve God’s love, but He loved us anyway. That’s grace.

When I speak of Christians being gracious to people caught lying, that’s what I mean: we know the offender is a liar, but we do them good just the same, hoping to bring them to the Lord. We don’t deny the fact that they did us wrong, but because God loves them we hope and pray for their salvation.

That said, here are three ways to graciously deal with liars and deceivers, even in the church.

What Does The Bible Say About Lying To Yourself

God cares about the state of our minds and hearts. We cannot experience God’s freedom without breaking through the lies that corrupt our thinking. Lying to ourselves about our circumstances, sin, or about what we know to be the truth is just another way we are held back from walking in the fullness of God’s freedom.

James 4:17 says, “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” When we know what God’s best is for our lives and fail to act, we are missing out on God’s best for our lives. God has given us free will, so we are responsible for our own choices and actions. When we choose to live contrary to God’s way, we cannot experience all God has for us.

2 Timothy 4:3 says, “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions.” Building our lives on the truth of the Bible rather than on ideas that suit our own desires is so important. We have to be open to allowing the Word of God to challenge us instead of changing what it says in order to match our preferred worldview.

Understanding Gods Hope And Help For Lying

Lying is a temptation like many others we struggle with. Sometimes it seems easier to lie our way out of a situation than admit the truth. But rarely does lying have positive results. It often leads to hurt, mistrust, and an endless cycle of more lies.

It doesnt have to be this way. God in his wisdom, saw the dangers of lying and the way it would hurt both the liar and the person being lied to. He wanted something better for us.

In these Bible verses below God warns us about lying and encourages trustworthiness. If we are caught in a web of lies, God offers forgiveness and help for a way out.

Why Do Manipulative People Misuse Gods Word

Ever since the Fall of Man, there has been sin in the world . Due to sin in the world, people do all sorts of horrible, wicked, evil things. One of these horrible things people do is misuse the Bible. Whether a person is manipulative or not, all sorts of different kinds of people can misuse the Bible.

However, manipulative people are notorious for misusing the Bible. Manipulators misuse the Bible because they are trying to interpret their own meaning of the text rather than what the Bible really says. By misusing the Bible, manipulative people can manipulate others into doing things and believing things that are not true.

As an example, manipulative people may say that God does not actually prohibit lying by using the argument that the Hebrew midwives lied in order to save the Hebrew babies , in which manipulative people would argue that it is acceptable to lie.

Repeatedly throughout Scripture, God condemns lying . Ephesians 4:25 clearly states, Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.

There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community .

Bible Verses About Manipulation

What does the Bible say about lying?

Watch out because there will be many people in life who will try to manipulate you or maybe they already have. There will be stiff penalties for these people because God is never mocked.

They try to manipulate by twisting, removing, or adding on to Scripture. Examples of this is some men use Scripture to abuse their wives, but they totally disregard the part where it says love your wives as yourselves and do not be harsh to them.

They miss the part where Scripture says love does no harm to others. Greedy false teachers use manipulation to lie to others and to take their money.

They use it to destroy Christianity and they are indeed sending many people to Hell. Many people are burning right this second because of false teachers. Many cults use manipulative tactics to deceive the naive.

The way to avoid being manipulated by anyone is by learning the Word of God and using it to your advantage. Satan tried to deceive Jesus, but Jesus fought back with Scripture and that is what we must do. Rejoice that we have the Holy Spirit to help us and teach us as well.

What does the Bible say?

1. Leviticus 25:17 Do not take advantage of each other, but fear your God. I am the LORD your God.

2. 1 Thessalonians 4:6 and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before.

Satan Is The Father Of Lies

Lying is not only a sin from God but is a direct act of the devil. John 8:44 says, “For you are the children of your father the devil and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning and a hater of truth there is not an iota of truth in him. When he lies, it is perfectly normal for he is the father of liars.” Lying is the work of the devil, and he will encourage us and tempt us to spit out false truths to tear us away from our Creator. We must put defenses up so that we cannot hear the whispers of Satan in our ear, and that starts with dedicating our lives to the truth.

What To Expect When You Stop Playing Along

When you stop following the manipulators script, you can expect one of three things to happen:

  • They will be upset for a while but will eventually own up to their behavior and make changes in their personal life. Manipulation will stop. This is the best outcome the one we hope and pray for.
  • The person will become a worse version of themselves. Theyll become more forceful, more verbally degrading, or they will increase pressure on you to make you back down, return to the script, and do what they tell you. You might even see all three styles of manipulation in the same person as they work to get what they want: The master turns into the savior who becomes the victim who changes into the master who turns into the savior and the cycle repeats. Its always possible that this person will change, but not likely. Thats why you need to a good support system.
  • The person becomes a worse version of themselves and becomes dangerous physically and relationally. They may try to ruin you financially, even file trumped-up charges against you. Because you wont do what they want, they make every effort to hurt you in some way. These people can be extremely dangerous, and you will need emotional support and likely legal protection to weather the storm.Thankfully, this type of fallout isnt as common, but you still need to plan ahead and stay safe. thehotline.org. Foul spirit of Jezebel, I stand against you in Jesus name! It is written in the Word of God that whatsoever I bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatsoever I loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Therefore, I bind up the spirit of Jezebel in the heavenlies. I bind up Jezebel with chains from heaven, and I loose Gods holy warrior angels to battle on our behalf.Father, send forth your angels from heaven to help cast out this demonic spirit. B Fill Your Heart With Truth

Matthew 12:34,35 – For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. We speak according to what is in our hearts, so we need to harbor only truth in our hearts.

Philippians 4:8 – Finally, brethren, whatever things are true … meditate on these things.

Psalms 15:2 – The one who abides in God’s tabernacle is he who speaks the truth in his heart. In order to speak truth with our mouths, we must speak truth in our hearts.

Psalms 51:6 – You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden partYou will make me to know wisdom.

To be speakers of truth, we must fill our hearts with truth, especially with God’s word.
