What Does The Bible Say About Witchcraft

Dont Try To Contact Or Control Supernatural Forces

What Does the Bible Say About Witchcraft?

Magic and spells depend on what Wiccans call a psychic link. Psychic development can involve training in divination the attempt to obtain information about the past, present or future by occult means or ones own psychic abilities.8 The Bible is very clear that divination and any other form of supernatural contact is forbidden, since it relies on a supernatural power apart from God. In other words, there is no such thing as white magic.

The Bible says:

Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord, and because of these detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you.

Do not practice divination or sorcery.

What If You Are Catholic But You Are Intrigued By Magick

I really think that we all should choose what kind of spirituality suits us. If we are diving into magick and its crafts is because maybe our traditional beliefs are not resonating with us as they should, then I see nothing wrong in practicing magick, also because, as we have often discussed, magick is not an evil practice as long as you practice with good intentions and an open heart.

You know you and, if you feel you need some magick, go for it. Religions were created to soothe our pains and heal our souls but, if they cannot do that, there is nothing wrong in relying on something different, but thats my opinion.

When Things Get Real

What does the Bible say about witchcraft / witches? Should ...

The Bible condemns all forms of witchcraftwhether its information-based or spell-based, effective or pointless, minor or major. Casting an occult spell is not a harmless thing, even if theres no chance of it really working, because doing so means following the lead of a demonic spirit. This is why God told the people of Israel not to get involved, at all, in such things when they came into the Promised Land .

Just because witchcraft cant allow someone to throw fireballs or turn others into frogs doesnt mean God takes the subject lightly. Under Old Testament law, the penalty for witchcraft was death . Real people attempting to commune with spirits have engaged in human sacrifice, child sacrifice, drug use, and other sinful behaviors in their efforts to contact a spiritual entity. And the only beings listening to that kind of talk are demons who are nobodys friends .

A really important point to keep in mind is that while spells, hexes, fortunes, and such are not real in the sense that they cant actually do what they claim, they should still be considered dangerous because they involve contact with demons. Demonic beings have ZERO interest, whatsoever, in making deals, bargains, or promises. And theyre not interested in helping humanity attain spirituality, knowledge, or power. Quite the opposite.

What About Those Burnt/cremated In The Bible

In cases of death and burial throughout the bible, the human body was treated with the utmost respect, and showed care and delicate treatment even in their death. They were bathed, wrapped in clothing, and even sprayed with expensive perfumes. Nevertheless, there were certain instances where the cremation of the dead still took place. Here are some examples below:

Saul and his sons : Saul and his sons who suffered severe injuries and had their bodies mutilated by their assailants and hurriedly got buried in terrible and unfavorable conditions in a strange land. After King David heard of this, he had his men go and exhume, burn their bodies, and transport them back for a proper burial. This was done, and there was no warning or rebuke from the Lord to the king for his action recorded in the bible neither was it counted as a sin against him. The circumstance warranted such action.

Josiah : This chapter contains a recap of the reign of Josiah for one and thirty years, and he was said to do that which was right in the sight of the Lord, which included burning the bones of priests upon their altars in an attempt to purge the land.

Achan : After the children of Israel had committed a trespass in the eye of the Lord, which triggered the wrath of the Lord against them as they lost and were smitten in a battle against the people of Ai. Achan was caught in possession of some of these accursed things. He was brought out, stoned, and burnt with fire.

Magic Spells Enchantments Charming Sorcery Wizardry Witchcraft

Research has shown that occult magic is often fraudulent and deceitful illusioncounterfeit miracles. Many books have been written on this subject. In some instances, occult magic or divination are a manifestation of demonic powers or the result of demon possession . Of course, the power of Satan and his demons is extremely limited compared to Gods power.

Those who follow the path of the magic arts are on the wrong path – a road that leads away from God, not toward Him. In one way or another, the end will be disaster. The evil QueenJezebel practiced witchcraft bringing catastrophe on herself and all Israel. Over and over, God denounces those who conjure spells and those who practice witchcraft and sorcery. The Bible says that anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord .

God warns of the ultimate punishment. Revelation 21:8 says of those who practice magic arts their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur the second death . Those who practice witchcraft will not inherit the kingdom of God . These practices are anti-God and are in rebellion against Him.

Many of citizens of ancient Ephesuspracticed the magic arts. Those who became Christians realized the foolish error of their former lives and burned their expensive books of magic as the trash they were .

The Spiritual World Is Real And So Is Satan

One thing Wiccans have right is that there is a supernatural world that interacts constantly with the world we see, touch and smell. Unfortunately, they believe its okay for humans to interact with spirits and spiritual forces any way we choose. To the contrary, the apostle Paul writes that the spiritual realm is potentially dangerous. Therefore, we need to treat it the way God tells us to and be prepared for spiritual battles of good versus evil.

The Bible says:

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Many Wiccans say that Wicca is harmless and nature-loving that it has nothing to do with evil, Satanism and dark forces. But that is exactly what Satan wants them to believe! Intent on deceit, Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light, says Paul. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Paul says that if they dont turn toward God and repent, their end will be what their actions deserve .

What Does Christianity Think

With the spread of Christianity, cremation at first faced stern opposition and was frowned upon by people of the faith, and it gradually receded into little or no acceptance. Christians hold a belief, one which is very important in Christianity the resurrection power. Some believe that when Christ needs to resurrect the dead, he needs a full-body, not dust. If Lazarus had been cremated, would he have been raised from dust? Cremation, according to science, is an irreversible reaction.

It is widely held that our faith would have been null and void without Christ resurrecting from the dead. Just imagine for a second that Christ was cremated instead of being buried? What would have been?. When people were first called Christians, they were referred to as such because they saw that their behavior was like that of Christ. Hence the notion to live, die, and be buried like Christ, as nobody wants to be ruled out of resurrection when Christ comes to take up the saints, as said in the book of revelations.

However, this begets the question, do we think that its too hard for God to breathe life into dust, or to raise the dead from its dust? After all, he created man from dust can he not do it again, or are we of little faith?

Acts Of The Apostles 8

There was a man named Simon for some time in the city, dedicated to magick, who sent the population of Samaria into raptures, pretending to be a great person.

Simon, seeing that the Spirit was conferred with the imposition of the hands of the apostles, offered them money saying: Give me this power too, so that whoever I lay my hands on, he may receive the Holy Spirit. But Peter replied: Your money goes with you in perdition, because you dared to think of buying the gift of God with money. There is no part or fate for you in this thing because your heart is not straight ahead to God. Repent therefore of this iniquity of yours and pray to the Lord that this thought be forgiven you. In fact, I see you closed in bitter gall and iniquity strings.

Are Curses And Spells Real

What does the bible say about sorcery and witchcraft ...

To curse is to wish that bad things happen to someone or to something.

On the other hand, to bless is to wish that good things happen to someone or to something.

When we think of curses, many of us immediately think of Voodoo. We picture someone pushing pins in little dolls which represent those they hate so that bad things can come upon them. We think of persons casting spells.

However, Voodoo is much more than that.

Voodoo a religion practiced chiefly in the Caribbean countries, especially in Haiti. It is a mixture of Roman Catholic rituals and the animism and magic of slaves from West Africa. In Voodoo, God rules over a multitude of local deities, deified ancestors and saints, who communicate with dreams, trances, and ritual practices.

We have become de-sensitized to witchcraft, curses, and spells in today’s culture.

One Sunday evening I had this terrible sense of dread that I would never see another Sunday. The sense of death was overwhelming. Each day was agony. I was peddling furiously on the exercise bike Thursday evening when the phone rang. One of our counselors had just finished a session when a woman confessed that she and her friends in a witches’ coven had prayed a death curse on me the previous Sunday night.

I have no doubt that we can postulate a number of theological frameworks to reconcile the experiences like those I mentioned above with Biblical truth.

Instances In Biblical Narrative

  • Numbers 5:11-31 describes a practice of making a wife who has been accused of adultery drink a mixture of water and dust from the floor of the Tabernacle in order to prove her guilt or innocence.

So What Does The Bible Say About Witches And Warlocks

It cannot be said that magickal activities are direct and specific diabolical actions and wizards themselves usually do not admit to being connected with the devil. Both in the past and in present times, some witches work in close collaboration with the devil, but these are isolated cases. What the Bible says for certain is that the various forms of magick, facilitate diabolical actions both with regard to sin and with regard to harassment.

Spells alter the filial relationship between man and God, put aside prayer and the sacraments, link the will to superstitious practices, foment hatred, and revenge. Often the advice of witches also incites or approves sexual conduct contrary to the Law of God.

The alleged release from invoices or malfunctions is only an illusion as is the production and launch of invoices against those you want to harm.

For all the above reasons the Bible says that the Word of God cannot be judged against the various forms of magick of excessive severity. The Word of God is just and a source of salvation.

Now, lets take a look at a few specific verses.

God Squad: Is It Ok As A Christian To Be Friends With A Witch

While there are noble elements of the Wiccan religion, there are also elements that do not harmonize easily with the Christian faith. Credit: Dreamstime

Q: My background in Christianity was in the Catholic Church with summers at the Nazarene . As an adult I belong to a Charismatic Church, and one of the things I did, because I felt God compelling me to, was to end a longtime friendship with a friend who became a Wiccan. I missed her, but felt right by God. From S

A: I get many repeat questions, but I have never received a question about whether it’s OK to have a friend who’s a witch. The Bible is quite clear and quite severe on this question. We read in Exodus 22:18, “Thou shalt not let a witch live.” Now I do not believe in witches, and I am not advocating violence against anyone, particularly men and women who say they are witches. There are tragic echoes of this biblical bigotry in the witch burnings in Europe and America in the 15th through 18th centuries. Biblical teachings sadly share much blame for these acts of murderous superstition and largely anti-female bigotry.

Letting go of witch burning as a morally repugnant vestige of our faith, I think you did the right thing in cutting off your friendship with your Wiccan friend.
