Religion Cant Deal With The Fundamental Human Need To Be Reconciled To The Holy God And Enter His Kingdom

John begins by telling us that Nicodemus was a Pharisee and adds that he was a ruler of the Jews. This means that he belonged to the Sanhedrin, the ruling council in Jerusalem that consisted of 71 members from the Pharisees and Sadducees. The Sadducees were almost all from the aristocracy and were more political than religious. They held to some heretical religious beliefs. The Pharisees were largely middle class businessmen who were concerned about following the Jewish law and had separated themselves from the common people by their strict adherence to their many regulations and rules . Nicodemus was apparently a leading Pharisee, because Jesus calls him the teacher of Israel . He must have been a recognized religious authority.

John reports that Nicodemus came to Jesus by night. There have been many speculations about why he did this. Perhaps the most likely is that he was afraid of what the other members of the council would think of him. He seems to have been a rather timid man . Some suggest that since most of Johns references to night have a spiritual symbolism, he may be hinting at Nicodemus spiritual condition. Although he was a religious leader, he was in spiritual darkness .

Rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far away from Me. But in vain do they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men. Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men.

Do You Need Organized Religion

IF YOU have been disillusioned with organized religion or have dismissed it as irrelevant, you are not alone. In fact, the number of people who are choosing not to be affiliated with organized religions is mushrooming.

Some have abandoned organized religions because they believe that such institutions breed hypocrisy and intolerance. Others find it too complicated to follow a structured form of worship. Still others feel that organized religion is nothing but a superfluous middleman between God and his worshippers. What does the Bible really teach about organized religion?

Biblical Examples Of Burials

I Walk By Faith Even When I Cannot See/ Christian Decor ...

The Bible does not command burial or have laws against cremation. The Old Testament and the New Testament demonstrate how Gods chosen people always buried their dead. Jesus Himself was buried in a tomb.

The field which Abraham purchased of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife .

There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife and there I buried Leah .

But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain .

Bible Verses About Faith

Are you looking for some great bible verses about faith?

For many of us, the most difficult time to muster our faith is in the face of a crisis or challenge. The knowledge that theres a greater plan doesnt necessarily ease the pain of losing someone too soon or the discomfort that comes with conflict. Its natural to ask, why me? Why now? Though this answer often feels unsatisfying at first, its not always up to us to understand Gods plan. And relying on our faith doesnt mean we dont suffer or feel pain, but it does provide solace and strength in knowing that we are cared for in ways unseen and unknown.

Faith also helps us when supporting others who are going through a difficult time, giving us the perspective and empathy to care for and lift them back up. Whats true is this: no suffering is in vain when you have faith.

The Bible On The Flat Earth Theory: A History

Perhaps the final argument from the flat Earth camp is that up until 500 years ago the church supported the model of a flat Earth, as many still do today. Again, this is wrong.

As we will see shortly, the church never claimed that the Earth is flat, but supported the theory of geocentrismwhich says that the Earth stands still and the Sun, Moon and stars revolve around itplacing humans at the centre of creation. This generated the conflict between heliocentrist Galilelo Galilei and the church. So where did this long-standing false idea of a conflict between Christianity and science on this point come from? It comes from an attempt to discredit the Bible at the end of the 19th century, Faulkner says.

If you are familiar with the Flammarion engraving, a very well-known illustration of the flat Earth covered by a dome, you might believe it originates in the medieval period but it actually dates from the 1880s. Such illustrationsof a religious or scientific originare almost non-existent in the medieval period, because during the Middle Ages almost nobody believed in the flat Earth theory, not even the church leaders. Therefore, if the proponents of the flat Earth theory are geocentrists, it is important to know that from a historical point of view the converse is not true.

What Happens When You Are Consistent

When you are consistent, you are also committed. Your commitment shouldn’t change with the circumstances. Some people give up instead of being steadfast and consistent when things don’t go well with them. Those are the times when it is evident if a person is consistent or not. Consistent people will keep going, but inconsistent people will give themselves excuses to give up.

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord” .

Is The United States Becoming China

What Does The Bible Say About Faith

Christians in China say the persecutions they are now experiencing are worse than what the church experienced during the height of Maos Cultural Revolution.

Chinas record on human rights, especially with regard to its minorities, is beyond horrific. The Uighurs, a Muslim minority, have been subjected to forced sterilization and abortion in a form of demographic genocide.Chinese Christians are being pressured to renounce their faith and to spy on other believers.

It has been reported that Christians who receive social welfare payments from the Chinese government have been ordered to remove crosses and religious symbols from their homes or lose their subsidies. One official posted portraits of Mao Zedong and Xi Jinping in a Christians home and said, These are the greatest Gods. If you want to worship somebody, they are the ones.

I note these horrific developments because they relate to the USs response to the pandemic and could be relevant to religious and civil liberties as a result.

In an article for the Boston Globe, cultural psychologist and author Michele Gelfand writes: The decentralized, defiant, do-it-your-own-way norms that make our country so entrepreneurial and creative also deepen our danger during the coronavirus crisis. To fight this pandemic, we cant just shift our resources we have to shift our cultural patterns as well.

Accountable To The Laws Of The Land

We are all held accountable for something or someone in one way or another. For example, there are laws to obey and if we fail to be obedient, we may have to suffer the consequences set by the officials who hold us accountable.

Obeying the traffic lights means we are accountable to other drivers. Can you imagine what would happen if nobody paid attention or disobeyed the traffic lights? If everyone did what he wanted to do without obeying the traffic laws that govern everyone, there would be crashes and no one would be able to go anyplace.

Jesus Grieves Over Jerusalem

How Is God Consistent

God expects consistency from us because He is consistent. He would not require us to do something that He does not require Himself to do.

We can depend on God because He is consistent in what He says He will do. His plans stand firm forever. You and other people might be inconsistent in many things, but God is never inconsistent in anything. All his promises are “Yea and Amen.” That means God will do exactly what He said He would do.

“The plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations” .

God never changes. That is a major sign of consistency. Because God does not change, we can trust Him. However, we cannot trust inconsistent people. They might tell you they will pick you up to take you to the airport at 6 a.m. to catch a flight at 7:30 a.m. You get ready and you wait and wait, but it is 6:45 a.m. when your inconsistent friend shows up. You are on pins and needles as he speeds to the airport. Even though you got to the airport on time, that is not something you want to go through whenever you depend on someone to do something for you.

People will let you down when they are inconsistent. God is reliable. You can count on God to remain the same. He remains constant in His attitude and love towards you at all times. You will always know what to expect from God. Not only will God always mean what He says, but He will always follow through on what He says.

What Does The Bible Say About Greatness

What the Bible Says About Jesus

While the world thinks greatness is one thing, the Bible explains it a different way. Jesus says in Luke 9:48 that greatness comes to those who are humble like little children.

“Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes my Father who sent me. Whoevr is the least among you is the greatest.”

It is true that most people strive for recognition, attention, popularity, power, and status. On the other hand, Jesus encouraged His followers to do the exact opposite, according to Matthew 20:16.

“And so it is, that many who are first now will be last then and those who are last now will be first then.”

In other words, in order to be rewarded in heaven, people should be content to work behind the scenes instead of pushing themselves to the front of the line to be seen. God wants His children to serve with humility in the Kingdom of God. Those who serve others with humility are the ones who will receive greatness.

Why Must We Forgive

The best reason to forgive is simple: Jesus commanded us to forgive. We learn from scripture in context to forgiveness that if we don’t forgive, neither will we be forgiven:

For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

We also forgive so that our prayers will not be hindered:

And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.

In summary, we forgive out of obedience to the Lord. It is a choice, a decision we make. However, as we do our part “forgiving,” we discover the command to forgive is in place for our own good, and we receive the reward of our forgiveness, which is spiritual freedom.

Public Worship And Governmental Authority

Three churches in California have filed a federal lawsuit against Gov. Gavin Newsom, claiming that a ban on singing in worship to help stem the spread of coronavirus violates their First Amendment rights. One explained, Singing in church is a biblical mandate.

They point to the governors support of recent Black Lives Matter protests, claiming that he protected the protesters freedom of expression while blocking that of Christians in worship. In their view, the governors act constitutes a breach of their religious freedom.

John MacArthurs well-known church in the Los Angeles area has chosen to reopen for in-person worship a video of his sermon shows attendees sitting beside each other without wearing masks. The churchs website defends the decision as obeying the biblical mandate to gather for corporate worship.
