Years World’s Oldest Woman Says Serving God Is The Secret

The story of Deborah

Violet Mosse-Brown, affectionately known as ‘Aunt V’, has now been declared the oldest living person in the world.

Born on March 10, 1900, the 117-year-old Jamaican says her Christian faith is the secret to her longevity.

“Thank God for what he has given to me. This what God has given me, so I have to take it, long life,” Brown said.

“I’ve done nearly everything at the church. I spent all my time in the church.”

According to the Violet Mosse Foundation, Brown was raised in the Christian faith. She was baptized over 100 years ago at the age of 13 in the Trittonville Baptist Church in the Duanvale district of Trelawny.

Duanvale is the same Jamaican parish where Olympic gold medal sprinter Usain Bolt is from.

Whenever she is asked about what has contributed to her longevity Brown proudly says, “My faith in serving God, and believing strongly in the teaching of the Bible.”

She is especially fond of the part of the scripture in the Bible that says “honor your parents that your days on this earth may be long.”

The centenarian was recently honored by a group of Baptist churches in Jamaica, for her service in children’s and music ministry.

“The guest of honor was lauded and cited as a person of exemplary character and an ardent, dedicated and faithful servant of God, who served her church for more than 80 years in varying capacities,” according to The Jamaica Baptist Reporter.

Brown also credits working hard and eating healthy for her long life.

Elizabeth: Mother Of John The Baptist

Elizabeth, another barren woman in the Bible, was singled out by God for a special honor. When God caused her to conceive at an old age, her son grew up to become John the Baptist, the mighty prophet who heralded the coming of the Messiah. Elizabeth’s story is much like Hannah’s, her faith just as strong.

Through her steadfast belief in God’s goodness, she played a role in God’s plan of salvation. Elizabeth teaches us God can step into a hopeless situation and turn it upside down in an instant.

The 8 Most Important Women Of The Bible

We can learn a lot from these strong women in the Bible.

From great military heroes to prophets, there are many important figures in the Bible who are recognized for their strength and character. While many think of men first when it comes to these strong figures, there are also a number of important women in the Bible who inspire, not only because of how they lived but also because of their rock-solid faith, even in some of the toughest of circumstances. Unfortunately, too often, womens stories have taken second place to the interests and needs of male Biblical writers and males leaders in Christian churches, but this didnt mean their stories werent important, especially in the eyes of God. By definition, a strong woman is fearless when it comes to facing hard situations. They are confident in who they are and what they believe, and in their example of fearlessness, they encourage others to be courageous and make a difference. Here are the eight most important women in the Bible and what we can learn from them.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. â Family and friends in Charlotte are remembering the life of the oldest woman in America.

What You Need To Know

  • Hester Ford was 116 years old when she died on April 17
  • She had 12 children, 48 grandchildren and more than 100 great-grandchildren
  • Ford was buried at York Memorial Park in Charlotte

For the last nine months, Mary Hill has spent every day with her grandmother, Hester Ford. She was her primary caretaker. Itâs a role she never thought sheâd have. Hill was a teacher for 40 years before retiring.

âGod had a plan for my life that I could have never imagined,â Hill said. âThe teaching allowed me to help her keep her memory, keep sharp.â

That sharp mind allowed her grandmother to vote in a presidential race in November. It was her last chance to vote before she died.

âGranny said, people died for us to have the right to vote and itâs a privilege for us to vote,â Hill said. âShe never thought she would live to see a Black president.â

Just like Hill believes God had a plan for her, she also believes he had a plan for her grandmother. Her former caretaker, Mary Cassidy, says she used to read the Bible to Ford everyday.

âShe was the type of person she loved the Lord so much and was ready to go home, but God said âno, you have a little bit more you have to do,ââ Cassidy said.

Fordâs daughter, Daisy Davis, believes Ford was on this earth to spread love and joy to others.

Eve: First Woman Created By God

Eve was the first woman, created by God to be a companion and helper for Adam, the first man. Everything was perfect in the Garden of Eden, but when Eve believed the lies of Satan, she influenced Adam to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, breaking God’s command.

Eve’s lesson was costly. God can be trusted but Satan cannot. Whenever we choose our own selfish desires over those of God, bad consequences will follow.

Miriam: Sister Of Moses

Miriam, Moses’ sister, played an important role in the exodus of the Jews from Egypt, but her pride got her in trouble. When her baby brother floated down the Nile River in a basket to escape death from the Egyptians, Miriam intervened with Pharaoh’s daughter, offering Jochebed as his wet nurse.

Many years later, after the Jews crossed the Red Sea, Miriam was there, leading them in celebration. However, her role as prophet led her to complain about Moses’ Cushite wife. God cursed her with leprosy but healed her after Moses’ prayers.

Ruth: Virtuous Ancestor Of Jesus

Ruth was a virtuous young widow, so upright in character that her love story is one of the favorite accounts in the entire Bible. When her Jewish mother-in-law Naomi returned to Israel from Moab after a famine, Ruth pledged to follow Naomi and worship her God.

Boaz exercised his right as kinsman-redeemer, married Ruth, and rescued both women from poverty. According to Matthew, Ruth was an ancestor of King David, whose descendant was Jesus Christ.

What Is The Woman’s Role In The Church

Lilith: The First Woman? (Biblical Stories Explained)

Just as there are varied roles for women in the Bible, life in the church today also provides variation.

Flipping into the pages of the New Testament, we see women like Anna, the prophetess, who was given opportunity to see the Messiah before most others, and the daughters of Philip who prophesied. Priscilla stands tall as a teacher in Acts 18 while Paul commends a lengthy list of women in Romans 16, many who are considered coworkers for the cause of Christ.

Oldest Books In The Bible

Determining when the books in the Bible were written can be difficult because there is a lot of disagreement between academic scholars and those who closely believe in and follow the Bible. Since it can be hard to figure out when in history these stories were first written, the dates on this list are based on the information presented in the Bible and are the dates widely accepted by followers of the Bible.

Whether or not these dates line up with actual history is up for debate and arguments have been made for both sides. There are events in the Bible that are historically correct and others that are not. With that said, this list covers what are widely believed to be the oldest books in the Bible.

Who Is The Oldest Man In The Bible

Let us turn to the genealogy of the first human on the Earth, Adam. In the Old Testament it is written in black and white, “And all the years of Adam’s life were nine hundred and thirty: and he came to his end.”

If we take the Bible and look at the life duration of the first people, we will really get numbers that are incomprehensible and incredible from the logic point of view. So, we read, that Adam, the God-created fathet of humanity, lived for 930 years. His son Seth lived 912 years. Adam`s grandson Enos – 905 years. The great-grandson Kainan lived 910 years. Methuselah lived 969 years and became the long-livers champion of the planet. There is even an expression of the Methuselah century. Famous Noah from the ark lived 950 years.

List Of 10 Oldest People In The Bible And Their Age

All of the oldest people in the Bible are from the Book of Genesis and make up the patrilineal line that connects Adam to Noah. These ten men are known as the Antediluvian patriarchs, as they were alive before the Flood. They all lived to be incredibly old, a majority of them died when they were past 900 years old.

Prior to the flood, lifespans remained in the vicinity of 900 years, but right afterward they dropped by about a third , and then the numbers plummeted even further. Neither Abraham nor Moses even reached 200, and by the time of King David, the Bible would write, Our years are seventy, or eighty for those who are strong .

Recommended: A Brief History Of Bible Translations

There is perhaps a theological truth hidden in the shrinking lifespans of the Old Testament. The Scriptures link sin and death. Adam and Eve were warned that the day they ate of the forbidden fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, they would die , but they did not drop dead immediately. Although they died spiritually in an instant, the clock of death for their bodies wound down much later. As the age listing below shows, as sin increased, lifespans dropped precipitously, especially after the flood.

The List below shows the Top 10 Oldest People In The Bible

1. Methuselah 969 Years Old

2. Jared 962 Years Old

3. Noah 950 Years Old

4. Adam 930 Years Old

5. Seth 912 Years Old

6. Kenan also spelt Cainan 910 Years Old

7. Enos 905 Years Old

9. Lamech 777 Years Old

Elisabet Wife Of Zacharias:

Older Women Reads The Bible Editorial Photography

There was in the days of Herod, king of Judea, a priest named Zacharias, of the class of Abiah his wife was from the daughters of Aaron, and his name was Elisabet. Both were righteous before God, and walked irreprehensible in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord. But they had no son because Elizabeth was barren, and both were already old , Luc. 1: 5-7.

It happened that when Zacharias exercised the priesthood before God according to the order of his class, according to the custom of the ministry, it was his turn to offer incense, entering the sanctuary of the Lord. And the whole crowd of the people was out praying at the time of incense. And an angel of the Lord appeared standing on the right of the altar of incense. And Zacharias was troubled to see him and fear was overwhelmed. But the angel said to him: Zechariah, do not fear because your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will give birth to you a son, and you will call his name John.

After those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid five months, saying, Thus the Lord had done for me in the days when he looked on me to take away my reproach among men’. Luc 1: 24-25.

When Elisabet had her birth time, she gave birth to a son. And when they heard neighbours and relatives Lord had shewed great mercy to her, they rejoiced with her, Luc. 1: 57-58.

This is another story of a barren old woman, who at the end of her life was blessed with motherhood.

The Life Of Methuselah The Oldest Person In The Bible

The life ofMethuselah The oldest person in the Bible

Longevity is one of the most noticeable features of characters in the old testament in the Bible. Personalities who lived in the Antediluvian period lived for centuries.

The longevity of Methuselah and other patriarchs make one wonder why and how they lived for such long periods as opposed to the current generation of humans. Based on genealogies, the length of the Antediluvian period was approximately 1,656.

The Antediluvian period is a significant period of the Bible and Jesus while prophesying about his second coming, compared events that will happen before he comes again with the incidents that happened before Noah built the Ark of God in preparation for the flood.

Jesus said

As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man

A good number of patriarchs lived for centuries but the oldest person in the Bible records is a man called Methuselah.

Methuselah was one of the descendants of Adam, the first man God created who lived for 930 years according to Genesis 5 v 5. Methuselah was born more than three thousand years before Christ came

Abraham And Sara Were Tested

They were already old and, to complement the apparent problem, she was also sterile. Both were tempted to think that the offspring could only come through Hagar, Saras servant. The custom then was to consider the servants as a possession of the patriarchs and that the children procreated with them were legitimate. However, that was not the divine plan.

When Ishmael was born, Abraham was already eighty-sixed years old. The punishment for this failure was the rivalry between Hagar and Sara and between their respective children, which culminated in the expulsion of the slave girl and her son. However, we see here the mercy of God, by promising Abraham that from Ishmael a nation would also come to be also his descendant, Gen. 16: 10-12 21:13, 18, 20.

After their unfortunate failure, the faith of Abraham and Sara had to wait almost fourteen years until the birth of Isaac, the legitimate son of the promise. The patriarch was already one hundred years old. And yet Abrahams faith was proved once again, by asking God to sacrifice his son Isaac. The Epistle to the Hebrews states that: By faith, Abraham, when tested, offered Isaac and he who had received the promises offered his only begotten, having been told: In Isaac, you will be called offspring thinking that God is powerful to raise even from the dead, from where figuratively, he also received him again, Heb. 11: 17-19.

Jesus Revealed Himself As God

Jesus and the woman discussed their views on worship, and the woman voiced her belief that the Messiah was coming. Jesus answered, “I who speak to you am he.”

As the woman began to grasp the reality of her encounter with Jesus, the disciples returned. They too were shocked to find him speaking to a woman. Leaving behind her water jar, the woman returned to town, inviting the people to “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did.”

Meanwhile, Jesus told his disciples the harvest of souls was ready, sown by the prophets, writers of the Old Testament and John the Baptist.

Excited by what the woman told them, the Samaritans came from Sychar and begged Jesus to stay with them.

Jesus stayed two days, teaching the Samaritan people about the Kingdom of God. When he left, the people told the woman, “… we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the savior of the world.”
