Why We Can Be Certain That God Will Act
The Bible reveals that Jehovah * God, our Creator, is committed to our planet and those who inhabit it. Consider just three Bible verses that indicate that God will act.
1.God did not create simply for nothing, but formed it to be inhabited.Isaiah 45:18.
God will accomplish his purpose for the earth. He will not let it be destroyed or become uninhabitable.
God promises that humans will live on the earth forever under peaceful conditions.
3.As for the wicked, they will be cut off from the earth.Proverbs 2:22.
God promises to remove those who persist in wickedness, including those who ruin the earth.
Giving Up Sugar Tasting God’s Goodness
As a latchkey kid, Wendy Speake turned to sugar for comfort. Every Friday, she would pedal to the candy show and use her allowance to fill her bag with candy. And one day, when she was older and a mom of three young boys, she came to realize that she was still pedaling away from her stress and using sugar as comfort, instead of turning to Jesus. She was joyless, worn out, tired, and in need of a change. In this interview, Wendy will challenge Christians to take 40 days to focus on fasting from something they turn to instead of Jesus for comfort. She invited people to break free from a dependence on sugar and taste the goodness of God.

The Lord Will One Day Redeem His Creation
One day the Lord will redeem His creation but, until then, the Creation is groaning in pain . Humankind is in the process of doubling the “pain.”
The temperature of our world has been approximately constant for the past 60 million years. Occasionally a cooling period will occur caused by fluctuations of earth’s orbit or by slight variations in the energy outputs of the sun.
Now, for the first time in history the global temperature is no longer constant. It is steadily increasing. The global warming phenomena can be traced to the 1880s and the initiation of the Industrial Age.

Human Pride Is At The Root Of Our Earths Problems
This one is a little harder to swallow because it includes us rather directly. The prophet Isaiah tackled the issue of pride head on when he wrote a poem about a certain king of Babylon. A part of ancient warfare was to destroy the agriculture and environment that sustained a city along with its inhabitants.6 This king had no more regard for the nature and landscapes he destroyed in his pillaging than he did for the humanity he wantonly slaughtered. Because of this, God issues a harsh judgement against him:
All the kings of the nations lie in glory, each in his own tomb
You will not be joined with them in burial, because you have destroyed your land, you have slain your people.
God Created Policies To Protect The Earth
In Leviticus 25:1-5, God gives us instructions regarding Israels agricultural practices to ensure the land would never be permanently ruined. We were to sow our fields for six years, but every seventh was to be a sabbatical year during which we could not sow or harvest. The land had to rest just as Israel rested on the Sabbath. Allowing the earth to take a sabbatical year demonstrates Gods desire concerning the sustainability of the environment.3
While the Bible itself is not written as a science textbook, this particular command turns out to have some scientific backing. There were several reasons for the sabbatical year provision, but as far as climate is concerned, there is a real benefit of resting the land to restore optimum sodium content in the soil. Large areas in Mesopotamia were actually left abandoned due to exhaustion of the soil and a disastrously high salt content.4
No doubt, exhausting the soil would eventually cause problems that, given enough time, could be conducive to larger-scale environmental issues. Resting the earth in this way was good land management and a way to ensure future generations would not inherit a crisis they did not create.

Christians And The Environment
What does the Bible have to say about conservationism and environmental concerns? I’ve noticed lately that several well-known Christian leaders have decided to make “global-warming” a key issue. Other evangelicals suggest that the “climate change” movement is primarily political and ideological in motivation. That’s the way I’ve viewed it, but I’m also aware that God expects us to act as good stewards of His creation. I’m thinking in particular of Bible verses like Gen. 1:28-30 and Ps. 24:1. Can you help me understand what they mean within the context of a specifically Christian worldview?
Its true that some secular environmentalists are clearly pursuing goals that contradict biblical values. But that doesnt necessarily mean that Christians cant come to some kind of a meeting of the minds with them to the extent that it involves our love for nature and our sense of responsibility towards Gods creation.
But having said this, we should hasten to add that there is no necessary link between appropriate concern for the natural environment and a pro-abortion stance. That connection has been trumped up and popularized in some circles through the influence of certain powerful groups and outspoken individuals. In our view, theres no good reason why believers cant find a way to love both God and His creation. The key is to keep our eyes fixed firmly on the truth of His Word.

We Can Care And Recycle But We Must Also Repent
To be the best stewards of the earth we can, we must make our homes more green. I applaud endeavors to be more energy-efficient. Programs like “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” are absolutely essential. Hybrid gas/electric cars will be a great help in reducing emissions, along with every other measure to protect our natural resources. Using water wisely is laudable.
Unfortunately, there is one problem with all of these endeavors. The basic nature of man is to be greedy and selfish. If our hearts change, we will become wise and responsible. Let’s do what we can while we can!
God clearly speaks about our response to caring for His creation by prayer and repentance:
When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.”

Christ And Common Sense: What Does The Bible Say About Global Warming
- Tim Dinkins
In 2006 Al Gore starred in a documentary called An Inconvenient Truth. In it he made the claim that there is a strong scientific consensus that the earth is warming primarily because of human activity. His argument was that as more humans populate the earth, more carbon dioxide is created in the atmosphere, which results in higher temperatures around the world. The documentary used sensationalized images to create a sense of doom and gloom that gave people a justification for regulating human activity on the Earth. Global warming activists have used this theory to curtail human innovation, placing the environment as a higher priority than the needs of people.
There are many scientific theories surrounding global warming, and scientists around the world are far from reaching a consensus on the issue. The Answers Research Journal published a paper in 2010 that proves this point. It is titled A Proposed Bible-Science Perspective on Global Warming and it reveals there are many scholars who disagree with the theory on global warming .
The issues related to global warming are more complicated than is often presented in the media. Instead of reducing the issue to sensationalized images of polar bears floating on icebergs, the discerning reader needs to study the science behind many issues including glaciers, carbon dioxide, climate and temperature. The Christian reader also needs to look to Scripture to make a determination about this issue.

How Did So Many Americans Come To Reject The Idea That Climate Change Is A Human
The vast majority of scientists agree climate change is an existing, growing, and human-made threat to our planet. And yet the topic is a divisive issue in the U.S. not least among people of faith.
White evangelical Christians in particular are, on average, more likely to question whether human activity contributed to the Earths warming, with research by Pew suggesting 28 percent accept this view, compared with 64 percent of those without a religious affiliation, 56 percent of black Protestants, and 41 percent of mainline Protestants. Over a third of evangelical Christians say there is no solid evidence that climate change is happening.
Some evangelicals argue that global warming is of little concern when the end times are approaching. Indeed, it could even be proof of it.

Bible verses are also pointed to as evidence humans are required to subdue Earth, that God is in control, and global warming is part of His plan. Others see it as a liberal hoax and a means to push folks away from religion towards the government.

What Does The Bible Say About Environmental Problems
Although the population density in biblical times was much lower than today and the use of raw materials, soil and the like much less, we encounter in the bible situations where the environment played a role. For example, rules have been set against the exploitation of the soil through intensive agriculture: For six years you shall sow your field, and for six years you shall prune your vineyard and gather in its fruits, but in the seventh year there shall be a Sabbath of solemn rest for the land, a Sabbath to the LORD. You shall not sow your field or prune your vineyard.
Even in wartime, the Israelites were not allowed to cause irreparable environmental damage to their enemies. Deuteronomy 20:19-20 says: When you besiege a city for a long time, making war against it in order to take it, you shall not destroy its trees by wielding an axe against them. You may eat from them, but you shall not cut them down. Are the trees in the field human, that they should be besieged by you? Only the trees that you know are not trees for food you may destroy and cut down, that you may build siegeworks against the city that makes war with you, until it falls.

What Would Jesus Do Talking With Evangelicals About Climate Change
In our new column about the American south and climate change, we go towards Christians who have been resistant to ideas of environmental stewardship – perhaps its a message they need to hear in their own terms
I was, frankly, nervous about speaking to people of faith in the south about climate change. I wrestled with my own preconceived notions and past experiences, and was surprised when conversations took inspiring, if not transcendent, turns.
Secular as I am now, I still think fondly of my childhood minister, Dr Lehman, who loved college basketball and Honda Accords . At the conclusion of each Lakeside Baptist service, hed call the eastern North Carolina congregation to action.
Go forth, he said as the organ began to play, and be involved in the world.
My family later moved to Spartanburg, South Carolina, and my high school experience felt ripped from the pages of the Footloose script. Local parents disowned gay sons classmates openly questioned the science of evolution in biology class Young Life leaders plastered an Abstinence Pledge on the wall of our public school cafeteria.
But if were going to address climate change in time to prevent catastrophic results, were going to do it by taking cooperative action with those with whom we disagree. I find myself wondering if similar discussions are happening in faith-based communities, and why there hasnt been a more palpable response to climate change among people of faith in the south.
