Love In The Bible Verse

Summary And Analysis Of 1 John : 7

What does the Bible say about Love?

The entire passage found in 1 John 4:7-21 speaks of God’s loving nature. Love is not merely an attribute of God, it is part of his very makeup. God is not merely loving at his core, he is love. God alone loves in the completeness and perfection of love.

Love comes from God. He is its source. And since God is love then we, his followers, who are born of God, will also love. God loves us, so we must love one another. A true Christian, one saved by love and filled with God’s love, must live in love toward God and others.

In this section of Scripture, we learn that brotherly love is our response to God’s love. The Lord teaches believers how to show his love to others, to our friends, family, and even our enemies. God’s love is unconditional his love is very different from human love that we experience with one another because it is not based on feelings. He doesn’t love us because we please him. He loves us simply because he is love.

Love is the true test of Christianity. The character of God is rooted in love. We receive God’s love in our relationship with him. We experience God’s love in our relationships with others.

God’s love is a gift. God’s love is a life-giving, energizing force. This love was demonstrated in Jesus Christ: “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love” . When we receive God’s love, we are enabled through that love to love others.

Love Contrasted With Hate

In this curious proverb, a bowl of vegetables represents a simple, common meal, while steak speaks of a luxurious feast. Where love is present, the simplest of foods will do. What value is there in a sumptuous meal if hatred and ill-will are present?

A bowl of vegetables with someone you love is better than steak with someone you hate.

The Role Of Faith Hope And Love

Faith, hope, and love are discussed individually at several points in the Scriptures. In the New Testament book of 1 Corinthians, the apostle Paul mentions the three virtues together and then goes on to identify love as the most important of the three:

And now abide faith, hope, love, these three but the greatest of these is love.

This key verse is part of a longer discourse sent by Paul to the Corinthians. Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians aimed to instruct and correct young believers in Corinth who were struggling with matters of disunity, immorality, and immaturity.

Since this verse extols the supremacy of love over all other virtues, it is very often selected, along with other passages from the surrounding verses, to be included in modern Christian wedding services. Here is the context of 1 Corinthians 13:13 within the surrounding verses:

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

The Greatness Of These Is Love

The Bible states that love is greater than both faith and hope. We couldn’t live our lives without faith or hope: without faith, we cannot know the God of love without hope, we would not endure in our faith until we meet him face to face. But in spite of the importance of faith and hope, love is even more crucial.

Why is love the greatest?

Because without love, the Bible teaches there can be no redemption. In Scripture we learn that God is love and that he sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us a supreme act of sacrificial love. Love is what motivated God the Father to send His only Son to die for us. Thus, love is the virtue upon which all Christian faith and hope now stand.

For the believer, love is the foundation for every good thing in our lives. Without love, nothing else matters.

1 John 4:8

He that loveth not knoweth not God for God is love.

God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

The Most Romantic Scriptures

The Bible affirms that a husband and wife can fully enjoy the pleasures of marital love. Together they are free to forget life’s cares and delight in the intoxication of their love for each other:

A loving doe, a graceful deermay her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be captivated by her love. Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth, for your love is more delightful than wine. My lover is mine, and I am his. How delightful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much more pleasing is your love than wine and the fragrance of your perfume than any spice!

In this succession of four amazing things, the first three refer to the world of nature, focusing on the wonderful and mysterious way things travel in the air, on land, and in the sea. These three have something in common: they do not leave a trace. The fourth thing highlights the way a man loves a woman. The previous three things lead up to the fourth. The way a man loves a woman is an expression, meaning sexual intercourse. Romantic love is wonderful, mysterious, and perhaps the writer suggests, impossible to trace:

There are three things that amaze me no, four things that I dont understand:how an eagle glides through the sky,how a snake slithers on a rock, how a ship navigates the ocean, how a man loves a woman.

Scriptures to meditate on as we love others

Love is such a powerful force! The word says that, “when we love each other God lives in us and his love within us grows ever stronger. When we use love as an action and take care to put others before ourselves, God’s love within us grows stronger. He is glorified on this earth when we act in love out of compassion for one another! That love changes our hearts too!

1 John 4:8: Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

2 Corinthians 5:14: For Christs love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.

1 Corinthians 16:13: Be on your guard stand firm in the faith be courageous be strong. 14 Do everything in love.
