Women In The Bible: Sarah

The Story Of Ruth A woman of God

Sarah is a wife and mother who was chosen by God to be the founding matriarch of Israel. Her story teaches us about faithfulness and obedience.

Sarah was one of the most important women of the Bible. She was the wife of Abraham and the mother of Isaac. Sarah was also a great example of faith.

Even though she was old, she believed that God would give her a son. And she was right!

God did give her a son, and Sarah named him Isaac, which means he who laughs.

Sarah is an important figure in the Old Testament. She is a role model of faith for all believers and an example of how God keeps His promises.

Sarah is an important woman in the Bible because she teaches us that we can always trust God.

The Creation Of Male And Female In Gods Image Reflects Our Need For Intimate Harmonious Relationships

It must be noted that in Genesis 1:26, God said, Let us make humankind in our image This represents inter-trinitarian communication. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit were communicating with each other about making humanity. Some have tried to suggest God is speaking to the angels, but Scripture never says that humans are made in the image of angels. They are, however, made in the image of God. Therefore, we as humans need intimate, loving relationships within a family, friends, church, and community.

Also, it is clear that most people will get married and that is Gods call for their lives. In marriage, they will love and serve each other and build Gods kingdom together . With that said, not all will get married for various reasons. In 1 Corinthians 7, Paul describes how some have the gift of celibacy, and the benefit of that gift is being able to devote more time and energy to serving the kingdom of God . But, in general, most will get married and reflect and serve God through their marriages.

Then God Said Let Us Make Human Beings In Our Image To Be Like Us

Genesis 1:2627

When creating human beings, God referred to Himself in the plural form. The use of the pronoun us shows there is more than one God at work. If God were only one, He should have said, Let me make man in my image. God made two images of human beingsa male image and a female image. These images come from the male image of God and the female image of God.

Then God said, Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them male and female he created them.

Genesis 1:2627

We call the male image of God, God the Father. What should we call the female image of God? The Bible testifies that She is God the Mother .

But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.

Galatians 4:26

Males were created according to the male image of God, whom we know as God the Father. And females were created according to the female image of GodGod the Mother. God the Father and God the Mother appear all throughout the Bible, not only at the beginning but also at the end .

Who Is A Strong Woman In The Bible

The Bible is full of inspiring female Bible heroes and stories of strong women who faced challenges with courage and faith.

One of the most famous examples is Queen Esther, who risked her life to save her people from a cruel decree.

Esther was a Jew living in Persia, and when the king issued a edict that all Jews must be put to death, she interceded on their behalf.

Esthers boldness and faith inspired the king to save her people, and her story has served as an inspiration for generations of women.

The Female Image Of God In The Bible

Through all of creation, God teaches us about the existence of the female image of God. It was Gods will that life in all living organisms come from mothers. Even throughout the Bible, God continuously teaches us about the existence of God the Mother. The first chapter in the book of Genesis depicts God creating human beings in the image of God.

The Rest Of The Story

The Book Of Esther – (Biblical Stories Explained)

This is one of those Bible stories thats hard to understand without a knowledge of the customs of the time.

First, I never could understand why this woman would be in someone elses house uninvited. But the hospitality of the times dictated that doors were left open and anyone could enter a home and observe the meal and perhaps eat the leftovers.

This woman had obviously heard about Jesus, heard Him preaching, and had made a decision to turn from her wicked ways and receive the gift of forgiveness and a new life. When she learned that Jesus was in town having dinner, she took advantage of the opportunity to show her love and appreciation for Him turning her life around.

If must have been a fairly large gathering for everyone to not notice the crying woman at Jesus feet. But the sight was somewhat commonplace, so besides accounting for the type of woman she was, a stranger entering someones home was no big deal. And we see from other Bible examples that anointing was a way of showing deference or respect.

Jesus goes on to mention Simon failed to greet Him with a kiss. A kiss was the ordinary greeting of respect between friends or colleagues. Then there was the holy kiss given to Rabbis. Simon had not treated Jesus as a friend nor respected Him as a Rabbi.

The Sinful Woman wasnt trying to make Simon look bad. Im sure she never gave Simon a thought at all. All she cared about was showing her love for her Savior. Nothing else mattered.

Women In The Bible: Huldah The Prophetess

Huldah was a prophetess in the Bible, mentioned in the Book of Kings. She lived in Jerusalem during the time of King Josiah and was married to Shallum, a man of some prominence.

Huldah is best known for her role in uncovering a copy of the Book of the Law, which had been lost during the reign of previous king, Manasseh.

When the priest Hilkiah found the book, he took it to Shaphan, the royal secretary, who then brought it to King Josiah.

Fearing that the King would be angry at the news, Shaphan asked his son Ahikam to speak to Huldah on their behalf.

Huldah prophesied that God would bring disaster upon Jerusalem, but that He would ultimately spare the people because of King Josiahs repentance.

Huldahs story is significant because it highlights the role of women in religious leadership.

In a time when women were not often given a voice, Huldah spoke up and was heard by those in power.

She reminds us that even today, our voices can be used to bring about change.

Feminine Imagery To Describe God

Those who believe it is ok to describe God in feminine terms refer to passages in the Bible that use feminine or maternal images for God: a woman in labor , a nursing mother , a comforting mother , or as a mother bear . In Deuteronomy 32, God, through Moses, rebukes Israel, using both male and female imagery to describe its origin:

Like an eagle that stirs up its nest, that flutters over its young, spreading out its wings, catching them, bearing them on its pinions, the Lord alone guided him, no foreign god was with him You were unmindful of the Rock that bore you, and you forgot the God who gave you birth.

The female imagery used in the above passages cannot be used to conclude God is female. For example, in Deuteronomy 32:4, God is described as The Rock, his work is perfect, but no one would suggest from this that God is a piece of marble or granite.

Another way people see a feminine component in God is the use of feminine nouns such as the Hebrew word for spirit and wisdom . But feminine nouns in no way mean that the spirit is a feminine person. The equivalent term in Greek for spirit, pneuma, is neuter . Moreover, in Genesis 1:2, spirit is modified by the masculine noun God , just as in the New Testament . There are even times when spirit behaves as a masculine noun, especially when it occurs as part of the phrase Spirit of the LORD . There is no evidence that the spirit of God is feminine.

Feminine Images Of God In The Bible

The Women of God in the Bible

The following verses are a rich source of feminine imagery for God from which to draw when we address God. Our foundational understanding of God is that God is spirit , neither male nor female. Yet both masculine and feminine metaphors enrich our understanding of God.

Eve: First Woman Created By God

Eve was the first woman, created by God to be a companion and helper for Adam, the first man. Everything was perfect in the Garden of Eden, but when Eve believed the lies of Satan, she influenced Adam to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, breaking God’s command.

Eve’s lesson was costly. God can be trusted but Satan cannot. Whenever we choose our own selfish desires over those of God, bad consequences will follow.

Bible Verses About Beauty And Self

Beauty and self-worth are biblical topics particularly important to women, but certainly relevant to men as well. But before addressing Bible verses about beauty and self-worth, I first want to focus on self-worth.

Our self-worth is rooted in our identities, and for Christians, that identity is in Christ.

26. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. Mark 10:44
27. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. 1 Timothy 2:5-6

That being said, the Bible verses below about self-worth talk about how we are treasured woman of God. Not only do we belong to Him, but we are also loved and cared for by Him. Our identity and self-worth is in our identity as children of God.

28. When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Psalm 8:3-4
29. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. John 3:16-17

Evidence For Male Leadership Is The Fact That God Named Humanity Man Or Mankind

Genesis 5:1-2 says this:

This is the book of the generations of Adam. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. Male and female he created them, and he blessed them and named them Man when they were created.

Man is a form of the word Adam. God named humankind after Adam, not the woman, which represented his leadership. This is similar to how in many cultures the wife takes the husbands last name, which represents his leadership over the family.3
