Where To Look For Additional Funding

M.Div students have access to many additional funding options through faith-based associations. Some awards are available to all M.Div students, while others target specific groups, such as those preparing for a career in ministry or women preparing for missionary work. Below are some available scholarship opportunities.

It’s helpful to discuss financial assistance with a schools financial aid office. They can let students know whether the aid received can be used at that school, and they can also find out if other scholarships are available based on a students program and career goals.

Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

Photos for Moody Bible Institute

Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, often called Southern Seminary, is the largest seminary in the United States, one of the largest in the world, and the flagship institution in training ministers for the Southern Baptist Convention. The school is located in the heart of the south in Louisville, Kentucky, and home to roughly six thousand students.

Those familiar with Southern Baptist history know that the denomination went through a turbulent period starting in the 1970s, as debates over inerrancy and womens ordination became heated. The apex of this turmoil revolved around Southern Seminary with the appointment of the conservative movements young spearhead Al Mohler. After his appointment 96% of the staff voluntarily left instead of continuing under Mohlers strict confessionalism. Since then, Mohler has established Southern as a bastion of conservative theology.

Professors and students alike that come out of Southern hold to extremely high views of the inerrant authority of scripture, traditional views of gender, creationist understandings of Genesis, and a high regard for church history . Whether one loves or hates the drastic contrast which Southern underwent, no one can deny that the seminary is now one of the most influential in the world, and a leading voice among conservative Evangelical theology.

The Second Coming Of Christ

We believe in the second coming of Christ. His return from heaven will be personal, visible and glorious, a blessed hope for which we should constantly watch and pray.1

Before He establishes His kingdom on earth, Jesus will come for His Church, an event commonly referred to as the “Rapture.” At that time the dead in Christ will be raised and living Christians will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air and be with Him forever.2 In this resurrection, those who have died in Christ will have their redeemed souls and spirits united with a body similar to Christ’s glorified body. Christians living at the time of this event will not die, but will be changed to be like Christ.3 This expectation is a motivation for holy living, as well as a source of comfort.4 No man knows the day or the hour when this will take place.5

After the Rapture of the Church, Christians will be brought before the judgment seat of Christ. He will reward them on the basis of the works they have accomplished.6 This is not a judgment to determine their salvation but a reward for labor on Christ’s behalf.7 The Rapture will also inaugurate a period that the Bible characterizes as the “great day of His wrath,” “the great tribulation” and the “time of Jacob’s trouble.”8 This time of unprecedented difficulty will affect Israel and all nations. Its purpose will be to prepare Israel for her Messiah.9

Moody Presidents Update On Federal Class Action Lawsuit

Gary Chapman – Founder’s Week 2014

Dear Moody Family,

Some of you may be aware of media reports regarding Hunter v. U.S. Department of Education. This is a federal, class action lawsuit that seeks to strip longstanding religious protections from Title IX by preventing students from utilizing Federal financial assistance at schools such as Moody Bible Institute that operate according to biblical beliefs on human sexuality matters.

While a former student at Moody Bible Institute is a plaintiff,Moody Bible Institute is not a defendant in this federal lawsuit.Along withthe Council for Christian Colleges & Universities and many other Christian colleges and universities, we are following this very closely. If successful, this would greatly impact students being able to choose and access the college of their choice that shares their biblical conviction such as Moody Bible Institute. For helpful information and perspective on this litigation, I encourage you tovisit the CCCUs website.

Prayerfully,

What Is The Difference Between A Masters Of Divinity And A Masters Of Theology

An M.Div. is designed for those who want to be ministers or priests, whereas a master’s in theology is intended for those who want a career outside the ministry. Therefore, an M.Div. program often includes courses in organizational leadership, administration, and public speaking in addition to theological studies. Meanwhile, a masters in theology which is often a Master of Arts degree may help graduates earn jobs in a range of fields including pastoral counseling or even academia.

Both masters degrees can serve as stepping-stones toward a doctoral program. The terminal degree for M.Div alumni is a Doctor of Ministry , while theology graduates may eventually achieve a Doctor of Theology . A D.Min. can help clergy qualify for higher pastoral leadership positions, while a Th.D. may be necessary for a tenure-track professor.

Degree Cost And Funding An Online Master’s Of Divinity

Moody Bible Institute

Tuition rates for the most affordable colleges with online M.Div. degrees range from $5,500-$17,820, with a median rate of $12,168. To reduce the amount students will owe after graduation, they should rely on grants, scholarships, work-study funding, and other gift aid before taking out student loans. When considering a loan, most students prefer to rely on federal loans rather than private lenders because they offer fixed interest rates, flexible repayment plans, and loan forgiveness options. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is an application to the largest funding pools: federal/state grants, loans, work-study programs, and many university-based scholarships. Our FAFSA guide walks students through the application process.

While online students are generally eligible for the same financial aid as campus-based students, some scholarships or grants may be limited to those who attend in person. To verify whether a student qualifies for aid, students should check all eligibility requirements before applying. For example, financial aid is usually restricted to students who enroll in a regionally or nationally accredited college. Also, some financial aid may only be available to students who enroll full-time or are considered state residents for tuition purposes.

These institutions are usually theologically conservative. They typically hold to biblical inerrancy, or at least a very high view of inspiration, and will often take a very traditional stand on social issues. These schools are often younger than mainline denominational schools. However, some of these schools are now the largest places of theological education on the globe.

The Master of Divinity is a popular degree for a pastorate position. This degree usually requires biblical languages as well as Mission and Preaching courses. The Master of Theology often requires less hours and is more of the academic track, possibly to start a PhD program.

If teaching at the collegiate level is your goal, the Master of Art and PhD in your subject of choice might be the ideal track. There are plenty of subjects to study and different degree types, and its best to look at the degree offerings and decide which most appeals to you for your desired vocational goal.

Southern Evangelical Theological Seminary

Although barely a quarter century old, Southern Evangelical Theological Seminary has quickly risen to academic prominence. The school bears the theological emphasis of its founder, Norman Geisler. Geisler is famous for his massive four volume systemic theology and extensive research on building an intellectually justifiable faith.

As such, his seminary was self-consciously built from the ground-up on evidentialist and classical apologetics. The school runs two institutes, the Institute for Islamic Studies and the Institute for Scientific Apologetics. The school also utilizes its distance learning resources in order to run a dual enrollment program.

This allows high school students to earn college credit while completing their secondary education. Although some colleges, especially county colleges, utilize similar programs, this is very unique in the seminary world.
