Opposition led to a series of events culminating in the death of Smith and his brother while jailed in 1844.

What Is The Latter
For Latter-day Saints, mortal existence is seen in the context of a great sweep of history, from a pre-earth life where the spirits of all humankind lived with Heavenly Father to a future life in His presence where continued growth, learning and improving will take place. Life on earth is regarded as a temporary state in which men and women are tried and testedand where they gain experiences obtainable nowhere else. God knew humans would make mistakes, so He provided a Savior, Jesus Christ, who would take upon Himself the sins of the world. To members of the Church, physical death on earth is not an end but the beginning of the next step in Gods plan for His children.

To be fair, mainstream Christianity can’t pinpoint where the Garden of Eden actually is. According to Christianity.com, the belief is that God does not want his people to find the garden. It is, after all, a perfect place, and the people have since become a little less than perfect. The Bible describes it as a location around which four rivers flowed these being the Euphrates, Tigris, Pison, and Gihon. Though the last two are unknown, this is generally understood to be somewhere in Iraq, although modern studies have indicated the Garden may have existed anywhere between the fertile crescent and Ethiopia, according to Christianity.com.
Mormons are more specific it’s in Jackson County, Missouri, according to the church itself. This stems from the belief that Joseph Smith uncovered Jackson County to be the seat of New Zion. Brigham Young himself said, “Joseph the Prophet told me that the garden of Eden was in Jackson Missouri” . You can’t get much more certain than that.

Early Life And Education
Russell M. Nelson was born on September 9, 1924, in , to Floss Edna and Marion Clavar Nelson . He had two sisters, Marjory E. and Enid , and a brother, Robert H. . Nelson’s father was a reporter for the and later became general manager of Gillham Advertising, Utah’s earliest . His parents were not active in the Latter-day Saint faith while he was a youth, but they did send him to , and he was baptized a member of the LDS Church at age 16.
Nelson studied at in his mid-teens and worked as an assistant secretary at a bank. He graduated from high school at age 16 and enrolled at the , graduating in 1945 with a and membership. While at the University of Utah, he was a member of the Beta Epsilon chapter of and . Nelson then attended the , graduating with a degree in 1947 ranked first in his class. Nelson began his first year of medical school while still an undergraduate, and completed the four-year M.D. program in only three years.
After medical school, Nelson went to the for his . While at Minnesota, he was a member of surgeon ‘s pioneering research team developing the that in April 1951 supported the first human using . Nelson received a from Minnesota in 1954 for his research contributions.
Restoration Of The Church Of Jesus Christ
While Jesus Christ was on the earth, He established His Church. Following His death and the deaths of His Apostles, some of the precious truths He taught and His sacred authority were lost for a time.11 This time period is known as the Great Apostasy.
In the spring of 1820, a young man named Joseph Smith prayed to God with great concern for the salvation of his own soul and to know which church he should join. God and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph12 and began to prepare him to bring back the precious truths and the sacred authority that had been lost from the Church Jesus Christ formed while on the earth. Under the Lords direction, Joseph Smith organized The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 6, 1830.

Then she sighed loudly, annoyed that a lifetime habit had slipped out.
Ugh, she said. I just said the word Mormon again. I apologize.
Last August, leaders of her faith announced a game-changing divine revelation. Russell M. Nelson, the churchs president, said that God had impressed upon my mind the importance of the name he has revealed for his church. Church members should no longer call themselves Mormons, or even use the shorthand L.D.S., the church announced.

The history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is typically divided into three broad time periods:
During the 20th century, the church grew substantially and became an international organization. Distancing itself from polygamy, the church began engaging, first with mainstream American culture, and then with international cultures, particularly those of Latin America, by sending out thousands of missionaries across the globe. The church became a strong and public champion of monogamy and the nuclear family, and at times played a prominent role in political matters. Among the official changes to the organization during the modern area include the ordination of black men to the priesthood in 1978, reversing a policy originally instituted by Brigham Young. The church has also periodically changed its temple ceremony, gradually omitting certain controversial elements. There are also periodic changes in the structure and organization of the church, mainly to accommodate the organization’s growth and increasing international presence.

Social Events And Gatherings
Additional meetings are also held at the meetinghouse. Church officers may conduct leadership meetings or host training sessions and classes. The ward or branch community may schedule social activities at the meetinghouse, including dances, dinners, holiday parties and musical presentations. The church’s Young Men and Young Women organizations meet at the meetinghouse once a week, where the youth participate in activities. At the start of 2020, the church implemented a new initiative for children and youth worldwide, which replaced all other church youth programs.
In LDS theology, a temple is considered to be a holy building, dedicated as a “House of the Lord” and held as more sacred than a typical meetinghouse or chapel. Keith Burns: Continuing Revelation Or Change In Lds Church

In November 2015, LDS leaders sent ripples of pain and confusion across the church when they implemented a policy prohibiting children of same-sex couples from getting baptized until age 18.
Notwithstanding such suffering, especially among LGBTQ+ members, Russell M. Nelson that the policy reflected the mind and the will of the Lord. Just 3 years later, Nelson reversed the policy shortly after becoming church president, describing both the implementation and removal of the ban as continuing revelation and motivated by the love of our Heavenly Father.
Yet another of Nelsons significant adjustments was his rebranding of the churchs name. In 2018, after nearly two centuries of the churchs use of the term Mormon, Nelson denounced the label as a victory for Satan. He further emphasized that Jesus is offended when we allow nicknames to be used or adopt or even sponsor those nicknames ourselves, efforts his predecessor Thomas S. Monson had poured millions of dollars into with marketing initiatives like the I am a Mormon campaign.
These are just several of many examples in which LDS authorities have asserted inconsistent and even contradictory positions over time, claiming that it is all part of one uninterrupted and divine flow of continuing revelation. I refer to this ongoing pattern as change within an illusion of unchangeability.
