The story of Eve begins in Genesis 2:18 with “The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him’… Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man… That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame. Eve is deceived, tempted and indulges, then shares with her husband who apparently neither questions nor argues. Their eyes are opened and they realize they are naked, and they make coverings from fig leaves. When God comes to the garden, they hide, and God knows something is wrong. Both attempt to shift the blame, but they end up bearing the responsibility, each receiving their own curses, and getting thrown out of the garden together.

A young Jewish woman in the Persian empire, Esther was beautiful and won the favour of everyone who saw her. But this queen was never meant to be simply ornamental she is one of the most prominent women of the Bible. Faced with the possibility of death, Esther chose to act despite fear when the people she loved were placed in danger. She was a prayerful woman praying and fasting to God, waiting upon His timing. And through her influence, she was able to prevent the genocide of the Jews in her kingdom. How amazing is that!
The book of Esther in the Old Testament shows how courage can save a nation and how an unlikely hero can change the course of history.

Hannah was one of the most important women in the Bible.
She was the mother of Samuel, who was a key figure in the Old Testament.
Hannah was barren for many years, and she prayed for a child.

Hannahs faithfulness to God is an example to us all, and her story reminds us that God is always faithful to His promises.

Ruth: Virtuous Ancestor Of Jesus
Ruth was a virtuous young widow, so upright in character that her love story is one of the favorite accounts in the entire Bible. When her Jewish mother-in-law Naomi returned to Israel from Moab after a famine, Ruth pledged to follow Naomi and worship her God.
Boaz exercised his right as kinsman-redeemer, married Ruth, and rescued both women from poverty. According to Matthew, Ruth was an ancestor of King David, whose descendant was Jesus Christ.
Women Sex And Law In Surrounding Cultures
Almost all Near Eastern societies of the Bronze Age and Axial Age were patriarchal with patriarchy established in most by 3000 BCE.:xxxii Eastern societies such as the Akkadians, Hittites, Assyrians and Persians relegated women to an inferior and subordinate position. There are very few exceptions, but one can be found in the third millennium B.C. with the Sumerians who accorded women a position which was almost equal to that of men. However, by the second millennium, the rights and status of women were reduced.:42:45
In the West, the status of Egyptian women was high, and their legal rights approached equality with men throughout the last three millennia B.C.:56 A few women even ruled as pharaohs.:7 However, historian Sarah Pomeroy explains that even in those ancient patriarchal societies where a woman could occasionally become queen, her position did not empower her female subjects.:x

What Is A Woman’s Role In The Bible
A quick look around the world today, allows us to see women filling a variety of roles: mothers, daughters, wives, judges, teachers, missionaries, lawyers, corporate leaders, journalists, and more. In the Bible, we find variety in roles women fill as well.
We read about women like Deborah, who held the valued and highly respected position of judge in Israel. As a result of her decisions, the Israelites experienced peace for 40 years. We find brave ones like Rahab who landed in the lineage of Jesus even though her checkered past might have caused many to cast her aside. Also included in the Bible are Hannah, a mother who offered her son for the sake of the Almighty, Anna, a prophetess and one of the first to see the Messiah, Mary, the young mother who carried the hope of the world in her womb, Rhoda, the servant who was first to see Peter after his miraculous release from prison, and Phoebe, a faithful servant in the church. All these women filled different yet important roles.

The Importance Of A Praying Woman
Why is a praying woman so important?
The Bible tells us to pray nearly 400 times. Not only does God tell us to pray, but He also gives us examples of people who pray, prayers to copy, and even a formula for prayer straight from Jesus. Why? Because prayer changes things.
When a woman prays, she literally fortifies the armor of God around herself, her family, and anyone else she prays for. This is important because the enemy is around every corner looking for a way in.

Eve: First Woman Created By God
Eve was the first woman, created by God to be a companion and helper for Adam, the first man. Everything was perfect in the Garden of Eden, but when Eve believed the lies of Satan, she influenced Adam to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, breaking God’s command.
Eve’s lesson was costly. God can be trusted but Satan cannot. Whenever we choose our own selfish desires over those of God, bad consequences will follow.

Sisera was chased by the people of Israel at the order of Deborah the Judge. When the Israelites came after Sisera with 10,000 men, Sisera fled. Israel was routing Sisera and his army when Sisera broke off from his men and fled alone. He came to the tent of Jael.
Jael knew who Sisera was and invited him into her tent to hide. He asked for some water to drink. Jael, in her cunningly kind way, gave Sisera milk to drink. After enjoying his milk he fell fast asleep.
Jael crept into the tent with a tent peg and hammer. The Bible says that she drove the nail through his temple and pegged his head to the ground. He was dead by the time the pursuing army found him.

Women In The Bible: Mary Sister To Martha
One woman who sometimes gets overshadowed by her more famous sister is Mary of Bethany. Though she is only mentioned a handful of times in scripture, we can learn a lot from her story.
Unlike Martha, however, Mary tended to sit at Jesus feet and listen to his teachings.

Summoned By Name: A Look At Four Nameless Women In The Bible
We all have one. From the moment we took our first breath and were swaddled in our mothers arms, we were given a name. An identity. Our name captures the uniqueness and individuality of who we are as people created in the image of an amazing God. Names in the Bible have always had powerful and significant meanings. We greatly admire the heroes of our faith who lived up to their extraordinary names.
People like Samuel , Abraham , Sarah , or Ruth .
Many of these men and women of God left an astounding legacy of faith for us to follow. But what about those in Scripture whose names are not mentioned? What lessons can we learn from their lives?
This week I am launching a new series featuring four women whose names are not mentioned in the Bible, but left an eternal impression on the hearts of many.
We may not know their names, but they were never overlooked by our Savior. He knew each of their unique stories, just as He knows each of us intimately, and affectionately calls us His beloved.
Our first stop this week is to Jacobs well in Samaria.
The scene opens with Jesus sitting beside a well.
Enter the Samaritan woman.
As she approaches the well to draw water, Jesus asks a head-turning question:
Will you give me a drink?
Jesus knows this woman by name. But to her, he is a complete stranger. Not only was he a stranger, she realized that he was a Jewish man, which made her wonder why he spoke to her at all.
She was seen.
